Dear Chevre The Marshall Fire currently raging in Boulder County is absolutely heartbreaking. More than 1,600 acres and over 500 homes have already been engulfed in flames. The communities of Superior and Louisville have already received evacuation orders, and those in the Candelas, Leyden Rock, and Whisper Creek areas are under pre-evacuation as of this writing. Hundreds of homes have been completely destroyed, and families have lost everything in an instant. The scale of loss may not be truly known for days, or possibly even weeks. Stay updated on evacuation areas, shelter locations, road closures, verified fundraising efforts, and other important information on the Boulder Office of Emergency Management's website by clicking here . You can check on the safety of loved ones by calling 303-413-7730. We've been in touch with our Unitarian Universalist, Protestant, Jewish, and Buddhist faith families in the affected area to make sure everyone is safe, and to find additional

JUDY CHICAGO: A PRAYER FOR OUR NATION And then all that has divided us will merge And then compassion will be wedded to power And then softness will come to a world that is harsh and unkind And then both men and women will be gentle And then both women and men will be strong And then no person will be subject to another's will And then all will be rich and free and varied And then the greed of some will give way to the needs of many And then all will share equally in the Earth's abundance And then all will care for the sick and the weak and the old And then all will nourish the young And then all will cherish life's creatures And then all will live in harmony with each other and the Earth And then everywhere will be called Eden once again. Judy Chicago We love this "prayer-poem" by activist and feminist artist Judy Chicago, one of TIME Magazine’s

I llustration by Hoi Chan / All Rights Reserved Dear friends, I lived in Australia for four years in my twenties and have visited many times since then. It’s a country I love. But, try as I did, I was never able to adapt to December being the summer. The first year, it was a novelty, but as the years went by, I noticed a disconnect: I was so used to December and January being cold months. It’s not that I always loved a cold January: for me it can be a month of struggle. But somehow, a swelteringly hot January just made me feel unsure, rather than comforted. The seasonal cycle — summer/winter/autumn/spring — was somehow connected with another way of feeling seasoned: I’d associated experiences with the time, and my expectations of the weather. Our On Being episode this week is a re-airing of Krista’s conversation with the British author Katherine May whose book Wintering has

The Human Rights Logo combines the silhouette of a hand with that of a bird, and a white thumb grabbing the bird. It is intended as a peaceful contribution towards strengthening human rights and as such is meant to be used across cultural and language borders. The logo is now available to everyone at no cost as an open source product. It is free from rights and can be used worldwide by everyone without paying fees or obtaining licenses. The logo was created by Predrag Stakić from Serbia . Human Rights Day is the day in 1948 the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The formal inception of Human Rights Day dates from 1950, after the Assembly passed resolution 423(V) inviting all States and interested organizations to adopt 10 December of each year as Human Rights Day. [4] The popularity of the day can be shown by the fact that the commemorative Human Rights Day stamp issued by the United Nations Postal Administration in 1952, recei
